We are honored to invite Dr. Derrick Harriell, Professor of English and Director of the Black Student Cultural Center, to Trinity University. A poet, scholar, and collaborator on Grammy Award–winning rapper 2 Chainz’s memoir The Voice in My Head Is God (2026), Dr. Harriell will join Professor Kelly Carlisle and Dr. Juyoun Jang in the Chapman Auditorium for a moderated conversation on Monday, October 12, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

This conversation will explore how The Voice in My Head Is God engages questions of voice, memory, and self-making, as well as the relationship between artistic expression and lived experience. Bringing together literature, music, and cultural criticism, the event invites students, faculty, and staff to consider how storytelling functions as a practice of reflection, survival, and transformation in contemporary Black life, while also highlighting the collaborative process behind the making of the memoir.
