Trinity University's Distinguished Scientists Lecture Series presents Gretchen Daily, the Bing Professor of Environmental Science at Stanford University. She will be speaking on "A New Business Model for People and Nature." The lecture will be held on October 25 at 7:30 p.m. in Laurie Auditorium, and it is free and open to the public. The Distinguished Scientists Lecture Series is made possible by the Walter F. Brown Family of San Antonio. This specific lecture is presented in partnership with Trinity University Press in support of Daily's latest book, One Tree / Un árbol único.
A powerful awakening is underway, to the value of trees, bees, and other elements of nature. Gretchen Daily will describe a powerful, new approach to valuing nature – and the risks and devastating costs of its loss – through compelling stories from all over the world. The approach is being scaled by key governments, investors, businesses and communities, to accelerate a deep transformation to an ecological civilization. From coastal resilience to mental health, water security and livable cities, nature is key. Gretchen will also talk about her books with photographer Charles Katz, Jr. – The Power of Trees and, forthcoming in October, One Tree.
Daily is also senior fellow in the Woods Institute for the Environment and director of the Center for Conservation Biology. She is the co-director of The Natural Capital Project, a partnership among Stanford University, The Nature Conservancy, World Wildlife Fund, and the University of Minnesota, whose goal is to align economic forces with conservation.
