Dr. Marty Makary

Health Care Futurist, New York Times Best-Selling Author, NBC News and FOX News Medical Commentator, and Johns Hopkins Surgeon and Professor of Health Policy

Marty Makary, M.D., is a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and has been a visiting professor at over 20 medical schools. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and received the Nobility in Science Award from the National Pancreas Foundation. He is also the chairman of the African Mission Healthcare medical advisory board and has served in leadership roles at the World Health Organization.

Makary has published over 250 scientific articles on the redesign of health care, medical innovation, and health equity, and he is the lead author of original publications on the surgery checklist. He is the editor-in-chief of Medpage Today and has written for The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and USA Today. His book Unaccountable turned into the T.V. series “The Resident.”
