Marnie Weber will offer a public lecture to the campus and San Antonio communities. The proposed lecture will coincide with an opening reception of a corresponding gallery exhibition. The exhibition in the Michael and Noémi Neidorff Art Gallery will be a selective retrospective of collage work produced over the last thirty years.
The art of collage remains a fundamental product of Manie Weber’s studio practice. Although known for her carnivalesque stage performances and installations, collage persists in the continuum of creative exploration both as a unique end in itself as well as a catalyst propelling other narratives throughout her wide-reaching practice.
This survey exhibition of Weber’s collage work features resplendent, uncanny worlds that conflate the imagined and the sentimental. Tenaciously realized, these collages are carefully staged, airbrushed, and colorized. The dreamscapes are inhabited by a wonderous roster of anthromorphs and archetypes. Weber’s Unreal Paradise takes us on a journey through absurd landscapes with the allure of desire, magic, and loss.
