Food for Thought: Nicolle Hirschfeld "A Tale of Two Fateful Trips: the Uluburun and Cape Gelidonya Shipwrecks"

Wednesday, February 28 at 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Nicolle Hirschfeld, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Classical Studies

The Late Bronze Age - the era of Tutankhamun and Ramses, Homer and the Trojan War - was one of glittering overseas exchange at its height and upheaval at its end. The speaker participated in the excavation of two of the three known shipwrecks from that time and is involved in the continuing research of both. This illustrated lecture provides a glimpse into the glamor and drudgery of seafaring in the eastern Mediterranean ca. 1400-1200 BC, and the work of learning about it.
